A jawan attacked by terrorists in Arunachal Pradesh on eve of independence A jawan of the Assam Rifles was injured on Tuesday when suspected militants opened fire from across the Indo-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh, a defense spokesperson said.
The press briefing said that the militants opened fire on the group during a patrol of the Assam Rifles. The incident took place at the Pangsau Pass post near the Myanmar border.
Tezpur-based defense spokesperson Lt Col AS Walia said, Paramilitary troops were carrying out extended patrolling for Independence Day. A junior commissioned officer sustained an injury on his hand.
Changlang Superintendent of Police Mihin Gumbo said suspected members of ULFA (I) and NSCN (K-YA) were involved in the firing.
The militants opened fire on the soldiers from Myanmar territory and fled the scene after attacking the security personnel. Assam Rifles jawans and district policemen have launched a massive combing operation in the area.
The sub-divisional headquarters of Pangsau Pass district is located 12 km from Nampong.Recently, ULFA (I) and NSCN (K-YA) jointly issued a call for boycott of Independence Day celebrations. Security has been beefed up, especially in the northeast along the Indo-Myanmar border in view of calls for a boycott by militants.
