Veteran CPIM leader, seven-time member of Lok Sabha Rupchand Pal passed away (86).
He died on Tuesday morning in a private hospital in Kolkata. In 1980, he won for the first time from Hooghly Lok Sabha constituency. But in 1984 he was defeated by Indumati Bhattacharya.
Then he won from Hooghly Lok Sabha constituency in 1989, 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2004. He was also the Leader of the Left Opposition in the Lok Sabha. His death has cast a shadow of mourning in the political circles.
