The recognition of Bidhan Chandra Agricultural University was cancelled. Students here cannot pursue higher education elsewhere as the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) withdraws their accreditation.
Not only that, they will not be able to join the job with this degree.
On July 19, the National Agricultural Education Accreditation Board under the Council canceled the accreditation of the Agricultural University in its 31st meeting.
The guidelines were issued on August 5.It has recently come into the hands of the university.
There are five faculties or colleges under the university.Three of them were not considered eligible for accreditation. And the rules of the council are that if more than 50 percent of the colleges under it fail to pass the eligibility criteria, then the recognition of the university will be cancelled.The main campus of the university was in Kalyani. Recently it shifted to Mohanpur.Besides, they have colleges in Shushunia and Burdwan in Bankura. There is also a separate Faculty of Agricultural Engineering at Mohanpur. These too were not recognized.
A senior professor of the university said that the reason for this is the unlimited indifference of the authorities. All the courses here are laboratory based. The infrastructure of practical classes in various firms is deplorable. No technical assistant. All in all, the council felt that the infrastructure for running the classes was inadequate. Due to this, the doors of the best institutions in Delhi, Punjab, Tamil Nadu will be closed in front of the students.
They will not be able to sit for the Junior Research Fellowship examination through the National Testing Agency. In other words, poor but talented students will not have the opportunity to get scholarships.
Vice-Chancellor Vikaskumar Mohapatra, however, was reluctant to take the responsibility of de-accreditation directly on his shoulders.He said that since 2011, every five years ICAR has been ordering the formation of faculty council of the university. The same order has been given in 2021. But it was not formed. I have come for a few days. However, how to completely cancel recognition? 60 per cent courses at undergraduate level, 58 per cent at postgraduate level and 48 per cent at PhD level can be continued for the time being. They can go for higher education in our university.
Many of the university, however, brought the vice-chancellor to the table and said that the vice-chancellor has been under investigation several times before. From this one can question his competence in the field of work. Even, there is an order made by the Central Vigilance Commission against him. However, the vice-chancellor said in this context, my tenure is being extended. That is why a part of the university is saying these things. I have already been cleared of all charges against me.
