People's lives are disrupted by heavy rains. Bangalore city is flooded. Although environmentalists blame unplanned urban development for the city's flooding. But flooding is terrifying for a class of people. They are also the working class people of this city who hold the production system of the city.
As a result of this rain, their residence is under water, next to it. CITU and Migrant Workers' Organization stood up. They came to their posts with medicine and food but it was very less than what was needed. Without government help their condition will be more miserable. No representative of Bangalore municipality was seen in the entire process, repeated appeals did not yield results. This time CITU called for a municipal campaign. CITU of migrant workers joined the municipal campaign with the demand of minimum triple, medicine, dry food.
The leadership of the Interstate Migrant Workers Federation of Karnataka has submitted a memorandum to the local municipality BBMP requesting relief for the migrant workers of Munnikholala, Varthur and Bellandur areas affected by heavy rains.
Demand of Karnataka Migrant Workers Union -
- Organizing free health camps in flood affected areas.
- Taking initiatives to drain rain water.
- Provision of drinking water immediately.
- Undertaking whole area disinfection initiatives.
- Arrange to pay compensation of rupees 2000 directly into the bank account of the victims.
- Undertake dredging of canals near Munnikholala area.
- Upholding the three-day meal order for flood-affected migrant workers.
- Arrangement of milk and health check-up for children.
