Vinesh Phogat and Seven Other Wrestlers Move Supreme Court Seeking FIR Against WFI President Brij Bhushan Singh

New Delhi: In a significant development, top Indian wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sakshee Malikkh, have moved the Supreme Court seeking the registration of an FIR against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over allegations of sexual harassment.
The wrestlers have been protesting at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, demanding that the police file a complaint against the WFI chief[1]. The athletes returned to protest after seven women wrestlers filed fresh sexual harassment complaints earlier this month[2]. They are asking for action on the fresh complaints and for the government to make public the findings of a six-member oversight committee, which was formed in January this year by the sports ministry after discussions with the wrestlers over the allegations against WFI chief.
The WFI elections, which were scheduled for May 7, have been postponed amid the row[1]. The oversight committee was tasked with investigating the allegations against Singh, but there has been no update on its status. The protesting wrestlers are now seeking the intervention of the apex court to expedite the matter and ensure justice for the victims.
The wrestlers, including Olympic medalists and national champions, have united in their stand against the WFI president and are determined to fight for justice. Their move to approach the Supreme Court highlights the seriousness of the allegations and the need for a transparent and speedy investigation.
As the wrestling community awaits the outcome of this legal battle, it is hoped that the authorities will take appropriate action to protect the interests of the athletes and uphold the integrity of the sport.
