Over 160 students of a government-aided residential school in Maharashtra's Sangli district were hospitalized on Monday after they complained of vomiting and loose motions. The students, aged between five and 15 years, were admitted to government hospitals in Sangli and Jath tehsils.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening after the students had dinner at the school. The students who fell ill were immediately rushed to the hospitals. Their condition is said to be stable.
The cause of the food poisoning is yet to be determined. However, the authorities have ordered an inquiry into the matter.
This is not the first time that there has been a case of food poisoning at a school in Maharashtra. In 2019, over 200 students of a school in Pune were hospitalized after they ate contaminated food.
The authorities have urged parents to be vigilant and to ensure that their children do not eat food from unhygienic sources. They have also advised schools to take necessary measures to prevent food poisoning.
