She has been a national executive member of the German SPD and its leftist Member of the Bookbinder Union of Stuttgart, and active in the Taylors and Seamstress Union. She became international secretary in 1896, although it was illegal for women to be members of trade unions in Germany at the time. Clara established herself in the face of adversity. She eventually successfully implemented the Marxist ideology through the formation of the Communist Party of Germany. She founded the German Communist Party.
