All 11 life-imprisonment accused in the 2002 Bilkis Bano gang rape case have been released from the Godhra sub-jail in Gujarat after the Godhra incident. The Gujarat government approved their release under its pardon policy.
The Congress party has targeted this decision of the Gujarat government by holding a press conference. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera has said in a press conference that, 'Gujarat BJP government releasing 11 accused in the Bilkis Bano gang rape case from jail shows the mindset of the BJP government.'
He further said that the cases of Kathuva and Unnao will be a milestone in the history of the country and will continue to embarrass every person involved in politics. When office-bearers, supporters of a national political party were seen taking out a rally in favor of rapists on the streets.
Targeting the Prime Minister, he said, 'Yesterday from the ramparts of the Red Fort, the Prime Minister had spoken a lot on women's safety, women's power, women's respect.
