As volcano in Indonesia erupts, 2,000 people evacuated
On Sunday, the authorities moved approximately 2,000 people out of the vicinity of the Semeru volcano and into safer areas further away. Soon after the country's volcanic activity threat level was raised to its highest after the release of searing gas clouds, rivers of lava, and thick lava flows, the evacuation of the area quickly got under way. The plumes of ash rose to an altitude of almost 50,000 feet into the sky.
