So far, 2 bodies have been found and 6 people have been rescued. According to the scientific police, one of the dead has been identified: he is Joao Maria Pires, 60 years old, born in San Francisco do Sul (Santa Catarina).
However, the exact death toll is unclear as it is impossible to know how many people were in each of the 16 buried vehicles, including 10 cars and six trucks - authorities put the initial figure at 21 vehicles.
