Doctor Duped 43,000 from online pet dog Fraud

A young doctor who attempted to purchase a pet dog online is said to have lost Rs 43,000, which is yet another example of educated people falling victim to cyber scam. The 32-year-old physician who works in Bidadi, Karnataka, wanted a pet dog and picked the German Shepherd breed. Through a friend, he learned about a supplier of puppies, and he contacted him via email.

According to reports, Litan Chakma replied to the man's email and promised to use logistics and transportation services to bring the puppy. But before the procedure could begin, he demanded that the first instalment of the purchase—a payment of Rs 43,000—be made.
To persuade the doctor, Litan Chakma even broke down the cost, according to a story in the Times of India (TOI).

According to the report, he allegedly gave the victim Rs 30,500 as a down payment for the dog and Rs 12,500 for the cage needed to transport it safely. On December 6, the physician transferred the aforementioned sum without the patient suspecting his motives. However, according to the daily, neither the animal nor the money were delivered.

IPC provisions 66C (punishment for identity theft), 66D (cheating by personation utilising computer resources), and 420 were used by the police to lodge a case (cheating). The article also stated that the police had not yet located or arrested the accused individual.
