Bihar Adopts Three-Tier System to Enhance Midday Meal Quality for 1.18 Crore School Children

A three-tiered system has been implemented by the authorities in Bihar in an effort to improve the quality of the midday meals that are delivered to children in the state. According to Satish Chandra Jha, who serves as the Special Secretary and Acting Director of the Midday Meal Scheme, the plan calls for an average of 1.18 crore children to have meals each day while they are in school.

In this three-tiered approach, schoolteachers and education department officers taste prepared food, and during inspections, district magistrates are requested to sit with the children and eat lunch with them. Additionally, schoolteachers and education department officers sample raw food. [2] In addition, Bihar is the first state in India to implement a cashless system for the purchase of goods such as oil, spices, and pulses; the state food corporation is responsible for supplying rice.

As of the year 2019, a system to monitor the food quality has been put into place. During the procedure, two to three members of the school management committee and other education department officers are present.
