Calcutta High Court Directs Termination of 842 Illegally Recruited Group C Employees in West Bengal Govt-Run Schools

The Calcutta High Court has recently made a ruling stating that 842 Group C employees, who were recruited by the West Bengal Government-run schools, should be terminated as their recruitment was found to be illegal. Among these employees, 57 were found to be working without appointment letters issued by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).

This ruling is a result of a case filed in the court against the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) by a group of petitioners who claimed that the recruitment of these Group C employees was in violation of the rules and regulations laid down by the government.

The court, after hearing the arguments and examining the evidence, found that the recruitment process was indeed flawed and that the employees were unlawfully appointed. It directed the WBBSE to terminate their services with immediate effect.

Bristi Mukherjee, who is the niece of Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, was also among the employees who were found to be working without an appointment letter from the SSC. Her appointment has been deemed illegal and she too is to be terminated from her post.

This ruling by the Calcutta High Court is a significant step towards ensuring that government recruitment processes are carried out in a fair and transparent manner, without any scope for corruption or nepotism. It sends out a strong message to those who may try to manipulate the system and engage in illegal practices.
