On March 6th, 2023, Justice Amit Sharma was officially sworn in as a permanent judge of the Delhi High Court. The ceremony was attended by several judges and lawyers, who graced the occasion with their presence.
Justice Sharma's appointment as a permanent judge was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium on February 15th, 2023. This recommendation was made after a thorough evaluation of his credentials and experience in the legal profession. Following the recommendation, the Centre notified his appointment on March 3rd, 2023.
With Justice Sharma's appointment, the total strength of the Delhi High Court now stands at 60 judges. Currently, there are 45 judges serving in the high court, including 10 women. This indicates a relatively good gender ratio in the high court, with women judges making up nearly a quarter of the total number of judges.
The appointment of Justice Sharma is expected to bring in fresh perspectives and ideas to the Delhi High Court, which is one of the busiest high courts in the country. As a permanent judge, Justice Sharma will be able to contribute towards the delivery of speedy and effective justice to the citizens of Delhi.
