The Delhi Police has announced a series of traffic curbs in the national capital in view of the G20 summit, which is scheduled to be held in New Delhi from September 8 to 10.
The curbs will be in place in and around the areas of Lutyens' Delhi, which is the seat of the Indian government. The restrictions will also apply to areas around Rajghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi.
The following traffic restrictions will be in place:
- No unauthorized persons will be allowed to enter Lutyens' Delhi between 12 midnight on September 8 and 11.59 pm on September 10.
- All vehicles, except those carrying essential goods and services, will be prohibited from entering Lutyens' Delhi during this period.
- There will be a complete ban on the entry of heavy vehicles into Delhi from September 7 to 11.
- There will be diversions in place for traffic on several roads in and around Lutyens' Delhi.
- The Delhi Metro will operate special services during the summit period.
The Delhi Police has advised commuters to plan their travel in advance and avoid unnecessary movement in the affected areas. The police has also set up a helpline number for commuters to get information about the traffic restrictions.
