A foreign researcher who had been missing from Visva-Bharati University in West Bengal, India, was rescued from C.B. Beach in Talsara, Odisha, on Thursday. Twelve people have been arrested in connection with the student's kidnapping. Three of the 12 arrested are from Durgapur and one is from Nanur. The rest of the gang is from Purba Medinipur. Two cars were used in the kidnapping. The foreign researcher's mobile phone has also been recovered. The police are investigating whether the kidnapping was motivated by a financial dispute, a relationship issue, or something else.
The researcher, who has not been identified, was last seen on campus on Tuesday evening. His roommate reported him missing to the police on Wednesday morning.
The police launched a massive search operation and tracked down the researcher's location in Odisha. They raided a house in Talsara and arrested the 12 suspects.
The researcher was rescued unharmed and is now back at Visva-Bharati University.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of students on campus. The police are investigating the matter and are trying to determine the motive for the kidnapping.
