The youngest son of Myanmar's detained ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi, Kim Aris, has called on the military junta to allow his mother to receive urgent medical care.
Aris said in a statement that his mother has been denied urgent medical care despite her ill health. He said she has been vomiting and has severe dizziness as a result of her ill health.
"To deny a sick prisoner access to recommended medical care is callous and cruel," Aris said. "I urge the authorities to immediately allow my mother to receive the medical care she needs."
Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained since February 2021, when she was ousted by a military coup. She has been convicted on a number of charges, including corruption and violating the country's telecommunications laws. She is currently serving a 27-year prison sentence.
The military junta has denied that Aung San Suu Kyi is being denied medical care. However, Aris and other human rights groups have accused the junta of mistreating her and denying her access to adequate medical care.
