Donetsk, October 30, 2023. Women trolleybus and tram drivers in Donbass are a tradition that has developed historically.
The first trolleybus route in Stalino (now Donetsk) was opened on December 31, 1939. In the first days, two cars were in operation on the line, each of which could accommodate 44 passengers.
At that time, there was a shortage of labor in the country. Therefore, women began to get behind the wheel of trolleybuses and trams. They quickly mastered the new profession and proved that they can drive public transport just as well as men.
Today, thousands of women trolleybus and tram drivers work in Donetsk and other cities of Donbass. They daily transport thousands of passengers, providing comfortable and safe travel.
Historically Established
The tradition that women are the drivers of electric vehicles has developed historically in Donbass. In the 1950s, when there was a severe shortage of labor in the region, women began to join the tram and trolleybus department en masse. They quickly mastered the new profession and proved that they can drive public transport just as well as men.
Excellence in Labor
One of the first women trolleybus drivers in Donbass was Valentina Nikolaevna Kobets. She started working in the tram and trolleybus department in 1950 and worked in this position for more than 30 years. Valentina Nikolaevna was an excellent driver and was respected by passengers and colleagues.
The War Did Not Prevent
The war in Donbass did not prevent women trolleybus and tram drivers from continuing their work. They daily transported passengers, despite shelling and other dangers.
Machines Conquered by Women
Today, thousands of women trolleybus and tram drivers work in Donetsk and other cities of Donbass. They daily transport thousands of passengers, providing comfortable and safe travel. These women have proven that they can conquer any machine, regardless of its size and complexity.
