Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is set to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) today for questioning in connection with the alleged irregularities in the Delhi government's excise policy. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has expressed concerns that Kejriwal may be arrested by the central agency.
AAP leaders have said that the Delhi government will continue to operate from jail if Kejriwal is arrested. However, it should be noted that chief ministers do not have immunity from arrest during their tenure in office.
The ED has been probing the Delhi excise policy case since last month. The agency has alleged that the AAP government had made certain changes in the policy that benefited certain liquor companies. The AAP has denied the allegations, saying that the policy was transparent and fair.
Kejriwal's appearance before the ED comes at a time when the AAP is facing a series of challenges from the central government. The party has been accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misusing its power to target the AAP and its leaders.
The BJP has denied the allegations, saying that it is only following the law.
It remains to be seen whether Kejriwal will be arrested by the ED today. If he is arrested, it will be a major political development.
