Moscow Shivers as Temperatures Plunge to This Winter's Lowest

Muscovites woke up to a bone-chilling morning on Tuesday, as temperatures in the Russian capital dipped to their lowest point of the season so far. According to Yevgeny Tishkovets, a leading expert at the Fobos weather service, the mercury at the VDNKh base weather station plummeted to a frigid -18.5 degrees Celsius (-1.3 Fahrenheit) overnight.

This reading marks a significant drop not only from previous days this winter but also from the average January temperature in Moscow, which typically hovers around -12.5 degrees Celsius (10.2 Fahrenheit). "This is six degrees below the January average," Tishkovets wrote on Telegram, highlighting the severity of the recent cold snap.

The biting cold wasn't confined to the city center, with even lower temperatures recorded in the surrounding suburbs. The town of Klin, located just outside Moscow, registered a bone-chilling -25.1 degrees Celsius (-13.18 Fahrenheit), making it the coldest spot in the region.

As if the current conditions weren't enough, Tishkovets warned that the icy grip is far from over. "The weather is expected to get even colder in the coming 24 hours," he wrote, urging residents to bundle up and take precautions against the harsh winter weather.

This recent cold snap serves as a stark reminder of the harsh winters that Moscow and its surrounding regions can experience. With temperatures expected to dip further in the coming hours, it's crucial for residents to stay informed, exercise caution when venturing outdoors, and prioritize warmth and safety.
