CPI(M) Denounces All Forms of Violence, Urges Halt to Operations in Maoist-Hit Areas
Raipur, May 23, 2025 – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has issued a formal statement unequivocally condemning all forms of violence in Maoist-affected regions, particularly in Chhattisgarh, following the recent encounter on May 22, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of 27 Maoists, including General Secretary Nambala Kesavarao.
The CPI(M) strongly opposes the use of violence as a means to resolve conflicts, asserting that neither state-sponsored actions nor Maoist insurgency can pave the way for sustainable peace. The party criticized the central government and the BJP-led Chhattisgarh state government for adopting what it describes as a policy of "annihilation" rather than engaging in constructive dialogue. It deems extra-judicial killings a grave violation of human rights and a direct threat to democratic values.
Simultaneously, the CPI(M) denounced the Maoist terror outfit, labeling its actions as reprehensible and a significant challenge to the democratic framework. The party emphasized that countering violence with violence only exacerbates the plight of ordinary citizens, who bear the brunt of such conflicts.
The CPI(M) also expressed concern over capitalist investments in the region, stating that such initiatives fail to address the fundamental livelihood issues of the local population, particularly the Adivasi communities, and cannot suppress their legitimate grievances. The party called on the government to immediately cease all paramilitary operations and prioritize dialogue to achieve lasting peace, warning that without addressing underlying issues, the goal of stability in the region will remain unattainable.
