"Bidrohi" Unveiled in Purba Bardhaman to Confront Alleged Campus Crime and Restore Student Safety

Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal, July 17, 2025 – In a significant move aimed at reclaiming academic spaces from the shadow of alleged illicit activities, a special task force named "Bidrohi" (Rebel) was officially launched today in Purba Bardhaman. The initiative, conceptualized and executed by the Purba Bardhaman District Committee, emerges with a powerful slogan: "Fighting Crime, Restoring Courage." Its core objective is to directly confront and dismantle the entrenched crime syndicates, pervasive bullying, and a suffocating atmosphere of fear that are reportedly being perpetuated by illegal student unions, particularly those allegedly run by the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, within the colleges of the district.

For years, colleges in Purba Bardhaman have reportedly been grappling with instances of intimidation, illicit financial activities, and an overall environment detrimental to academic pursuit and student well-being. Recent reports from across West Bengal, including a Calcutta High Court directive just today to expedite student union elections and keep union rooms locked until then, highlight the urgency of addressing campus governance and safety issues. The court's observations, especially following incidents like the alleged gang-rape in a South Calcutta Law College union room, underscore the critical need for a return to law and order in educational institutions.

"Bidrohi" steps into this challenging landscape with a clear mandate: to take proactive and necessary measures against these persistent problems. "We have observed with growing concern the detrimental impact of these 'crime syndicates' on the academic environment and the mental peace of our students," stated a representative from the Purba Bardhaman District Committee during the press conference. "Our colleges should be havens of learning and growth, not breeding grounds for fear and illegal activities."

The team emphasizes a collaborative approach, urging the entire academic community and local populace to join their fight. To facilitate this, "Bidrohi" has implemented an accessible reporting mechanism. Students, parents, teachers, and alumni are encouraged to share their complaints and concerns anonymously or otherwise, by scanning a designated QR code or by directly filling out a Google Form. The link to the form, https://forms.gle/hnvbP89izz5Getb96, was prominently displayed and shared with the media.

"This is not just an initiative; it's a movement," declared one of the organizers. "We are calling upon every individual who believes in the sanctity of education and the safety of our youth to become a 'Bidrohi.' Your participation, your voice, and your reports are crucial in empowering us to bring about tangible change and restore a truly courageous and conducive learning environment in Purba Bardhaman's colleges."

The launch of "Bidrohi" signifies a determined effort to address issues that have long plagued educational institutions, promising a renewed focus on student welfare and the eradication of criminal elements within college campuses. The coming weeks will see how effectively this new team can galvanize support and bring about the promised restoration of order and courage.
