During the first address to the nation, the President Murmu said that the election to the top post of the country's constitution is not personal to her but it will be one of her responsibilities to protect the interests of every poor section of the country. Murmu said that she has now reached the post of president and is proud to lead such a progressive country.
Stating that she was the first president born after independence, President Murmu said it was her fortune to assume the post at a time when the country was celebrating "Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav" to mark its 75th independence anniversary. Chief Justice of India NV Ramana administered the oath to her. Guard of honor was given after the oath. She became the first indigenous President of India.
