The central government is now in the process of controlling digital media in the country, the related bill is going to come in the monsoon session starting from Monday.Around 24 bills are coming up in the Lok Sabha, including the Registration of Press and Periodicals Bill, which aims to regulate digital media for the first time in India.
Those associated with digital media will have to register with the relevant department of the central government within 90 days of the law coming into force.
This new law is a change from the press law during the British era. Although the CPIM has clarified its position against this law, CPIM Rajya Sabha MP Advocate Bikas Ranjan Bhattacharya said yesterday that this law will not only harm those associated with alternative media but also the anti-government voices in the digital media. It will be shut down which is dangerous for democracy.
The government should immediately step back from enacting this law. The Congress has strongly reacted that this law will shut down many digital media who are wronged by the government in the digital world.
