When the country is entering the 75th Independence Day, there is a call to organize several programs on the love of the country as well as to hoist the flag from house to house. This time the debate about the country's flag has arisen. The MP of the CPIM State Assembly has written a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and demanded his intervention.
The section 1.2 of the flagcode amended by Order No. 02 / 01 / 2020 - Public ( Part - III ) reads thus " National Flag shall be made of hand spun and hand woven or machine made . cotton / polyester / wool / silk khadi bunting . " . Since mass produced polyester machine made flags are cheaper that the cotton handwoven flags , they will overtake the market .
The cotton and silk flags are ecofriendly and when they are handspun they add strength to the local economy . But the permission given to flags made of machine made polyester flag will result in our country being inundated with machine made non - biodegradable flags from abroad .
This is move which is neither ecofriendly nor favourable to the cause of the cottage industries . I request your kind attention and immediate intervention into this matter to immediately the revoke the amendment to the Flagcode 2002 since the move is harmful to environment and cottage industries of our country .
