Supreme court Directives no business around tajmahal

The Supreme Court has announced a verdict to save a historical monument. The Taj Mahal in Agra which is one of the wonders of the world, later ruled that no business activity can be organized within a radius of 500 meters.

"We allow the prayer which reads -- direct the Agra Development Authority to remove all business activities within 500 meters from the monument boundary/peripheral wall of the Taj Mahal which will be consistent with Article 14 of the Constitution of India". A bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and AS Okar.

Bench senior advocate ADN Rao, who is assisting the court as amicus curiae, took on record his submission that issuing an order to stop all commercial activities near the Taj Mahal would be in the interest of the protected monument. Rao noted that the apex court had issued a similar order in May 2000 but it was appropriate to reiterate the direction in view of the longer period.
