"We allow the prayer which reads -- direct the Agra Development Authority to remove all business activities within 500 meters from the monument boundary/peripheral wall of the Taj Mahal which will be consistent with Article 14 of the Constitution of India". Bench senior advocate ADN Rao, who is assisting the court as amicus curiae, took on record his submission that issuing an order to stop all commercial activities near the Taj Mahal would be in the interest of the protected monument. Rao noted that the apex court had issued a similar order in May 2000 but it was appropriate to reiterate the direction in view of the longer period.
