Famous graffiti artist Banksy has accused clothing brand Guess of using his artwork without permission. Banksy posted a photo of Guess' store on London's Regent Street encouraging thieves to target the location, noting that Guess had done the same with his artwork. "Beware all thieves.
Please go to Guess on Regent Street." They used my artwork without asking, How could you do the same thing to their clothes wrong? Banksy wrote in an Instagram post on Friday. According to the BBC, the American fashion brand said its Banksy collection was created in collaboration with Brandalised, the company that licenses graffiti artists' designs. Guess' shop window on Regent Street displays a replica of the Flower Thrower, one of Banksy's most famous murals created in 2003. Since then, Guess has covered the screens and closed the shop on Regent Street to shoppers.
Security guards also work outside since Banksy asked the robbers to help her buy Guess clothes.
Paul Marciano, creative director of Guess, said: “Banksy's drawings have had an extraordinary impact that has reverberated throughout popular culture. "This new collection with Brandalised is fashion's way of expressing its gratitude."
