Hackers are said to have demanded an estimated 200 crore cryptocurrency from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi when its servers went down for the sixth consecutive day, key sources announced Monday.
There are concerns that data for about 3-4 patient centers may have been compromised due to the hack discovered on Wednesday morning. Sources say patient care services in emergency departments, outpatient clinics, hospitals and laboratories are being handled manually due to the server outage.
The Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-IN), Delhi Police and Home Ministry representatives are investigating the ransomware attack. A case of extortion and cyber terrorism was registered on November 25 by the Integrated Intelligence and Strategic Operations Unit (IFSO) of the Delhi Police.
Official sources say that internet access is blocked on hospital computers on the recommendation of the investigating authorities. The AIIMS server stores the data of a number of VIPs, including former prime ministers, ministers, officials, and judges.
