On Wednesday afternoon, a ruckus broke out in Kolkata over the demand for dearness allowance (DA-Dearness Allowance). Members of the Joint Forum of State Government Employees were marching in the Assembly demanding DA. When the police stopped them on Rani Rasmani Avenue, they tried to break the barricade. As a result, a scuffle started between the two parties. Many government workers were arrested during the crackdown on bribery. Among them are employees of the High Court.
Yesterday, it was seen that several state government employees broke the police barricade and ran towards the Aakashbani and the Assembly. The police are running behind them. Not only the state government employees were in this day's movement, pensioners were also in the procession. While going from Rani Rasmani to the Vidhan Sabha, a pensioner turned his head and fell on the road.
The irony is that those who protested for DA on this day are state government employees, and the police are also state government employees. As a result, the police did not show a strict attitude at the beginning of the protest program. But when the state government employees reached the assembly gate, the police did not relent. The state government employees alleged that they were dragged into the police vehicle. A Calcutta High Court employee's face burst open and blood gushed out due to police jostling.
However, the state government has not yet changed its stance on DA. The state government has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Calcutta High Court's order to settle DA arrears within three months. The trial of that case has not yet started. Now let's see what the Supreme Court decides.
