Delhi Police have arrested 20 people in connection with a complex online scam revolving around Ola electric bikes. This scam is said to have deceived more than 1000 people across India. The report said that the accused come from different parts of the country including Patna, Bangalore and Gurugram.
The scam was carried out by creating a fake Ola Electric website targeting people who wanted to buy e-scooters. Through this website, people first inadvertently paid 499 rupees to book scooters, and then received calls from people purporting to be Ola employees. These calls result in payments in the tens of thousands in the name of down payments, shipping costs, insurance, and so on. The scam came to light after the flight information was registered by the Delhi Police electronically based on a complaint received on October 7.
Until recently, Ola electric scooters were sold exclusively through an online form, and only recently the company decided to open a physical experience center.
