Only Women Presence In Himachal Assrmbly

There won't be any women representing the state in the new 68-person Himachal Pradesh Assembly. Only one of the twenty-four women who ran for assembly seats on November 12 was successful in getting elected.

Even though the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and the Congress all ran female candidates, only Reena Kashyap of the BJP was elected.
Kashyap was able to keep her seat in the 2021 assembly by-election for Pachhad (SC).

In the assembly elections of 2017, four women were successful.Sarveen Chaudhary, minister of social justice and empowerment and four-time MLA from Shahpur in Kangra, Asha Kumari, senior Congress leader and six-time MLA from Dalhousie and a potential candidate for chief minister's post, Rita Dhiman, BJP MLA from Indora, and Champa Thakur, daughter of veteran Congress leader Kaul Singh, both lost their seats on November 12.

Female voters in the state make up roughly half of the total.Interestingly, female voters have consistently outnumbered male voters in polls going back to 1998, and this trend has continued in the five elections since then. In 1998, 72.2 and 71.23 percent of voters were female; in 2003, 75.92 and 73.14 percent did; in 2007 and 2012, 76.20 and 69.39 percent did; and in 2017, 77.98 and 70.58 percent did.
