"I swear by God, by the Homeland, and by all Peruvians that I will faithfully exercise the office of President of the Republic, which I assume in accordance with the Political Constitution of Peru," Boluarte, the first woman to hold the highest office in the history of this Andean nation, said after taking the oath of office. "I swear by God, by the Homeland, and by all Peruvians."After administering the oath of office in the Legislative seat in the presence of the members of parliament, the newly elected president then gave a brief statement to the nation, which was carried live on national media outlets.



"I am requesting a political cease-fire in order to create a government of national unity; this duty must be carried out by all parties involved. I seek a timetable to save our country from corruption. My first step will be to combat corruption in all of its potentially dangerous forms "remarked the head of state.After finishing his address, Boluarte walked out of the Congress and headed towards the Government Palace, which is where the Executive branch is housed.Article 113 of the Constitution, which states that the president can be removed from office for "permanent moral inability" to perform it, was applied to remove Castillo from office on Wednesday afternoon. This allowed the plenary to fulfill its responsibility to remove Castillo from office.



The former head of state delivered an address that was broadcast nationwide on television in the morning, during which he declared the dissolution of Congress and the installation of a "government of exception."Additionally, he declared that elections would be held "in the shortest period for a new Congress with constituent faculties to design a new Constitution in a term no longer than nine months from this day."Castillo was expected to be confronted with an impeachment motion to be voted on in Congress on this coming Wednesday. The proposal was sponsored by a group of opposition MPs on the basis of permanent moral incompetence.Castillo resorted to the use of force despite without having the backing of any institution of the state, including the armed forces.Vice President Boluarte, in accordance with the law, was the one who was responsible for replacing the deposed president. Vice President Boluarte, however, did not accept the measures performed by the previous president.

Castillo is presently being held at a police station in Lima, and it is yet unclear what actions the legal authorities will take in response to his effort to shut down the parliament.
