On Thursday, the Collegium of the Supreme Court made its recommendations for the five judges who should be elevated to the position of Chief Justice of the High Courts in Allahabad [1, Calcutta [2], Chhattisgarh [3], Gujarat [2], and Manipur [2]. A notification from the government is required before the appointments can be made. If the suggestions are adopted by the government, Justice Gokhani will become the first and only female chief justice in the history of the country to preside over a high court. The collegium, which is headed by the Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, said in a statement that it recommended the elevation of Allahabad High Court's Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal to the Supreme Court on January 31. As a result of this recommendation, the office of Chief Justice will soon become vacant.
Since the 3rd of October 2018, Justice Pritinker Diwaker has been working as a Puisne Judge at the High Court of Judicature in Allahabad, where he is now the most senior judge in his position. The time that Justice Pritinker Diwaker spent serving as a judge on the High Court of Judicature in Allahabad would prove to be a valuable experience for him to have in his role as Chief Justice of that High Court. The proposal to appoint Mr. Justice Pritinker Diwaker to the position of Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature in Allahabad has received the approval of the consultee-Judges.
Since the 10th of June 2022, Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur, whose home High Court is the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, has served as a judge on the Bombay High Court. His parent High Court is the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. According to the resolution that was passed by the Collegium, the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court does not have any representation among the Chief Justices of other High Courts
