6.8 magnitude earthquake hits Ecuador, Peru; at least 13 killed
The coastal region of Ecuador and northern Peru was affected by an earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale, which caused structural damage to homes as well as medical buildings. The earthquake, which had a depth of 66.4 kilometres and was centred approximately 10 kilometres from the city of Balao in the province of Guayas, was responsible for the deaths of at least 13 people. Response teams are on their way to aid those who have been affected.
