The SFI March Sparks Controversy
A commotion broke out in Howrah, Sealdah when SFI supporters gathered for a rally. As they assembled outside Sealdah station, they were taken away in a police prison van amidst slogans questioning the police's allegiance. The CPM's student body, SFI, had called for a campaign demanding an end to corruption in education, the closure of certain schools in the state, and justice for the perpetrators of student union polls and riots. Lalbazar, however, did not allow the procession due to an ongoing exam, but the SFI remained steadfast in their demand.
To control the situation, a heavy police force was deployed at Sealdah station, bringing the area to a virtual standstill. Despite repeated announcements on the mic, the SFI supporters were determined to march. Eventually, the police dispersed them and took them into custody.
SFI supporters claim that the Chief Minister has deployed the entire police administration to stifle their voice. However, the police maintain that the procession was not permitted due to the ongoing exam. The controversy surrounding the SFI march continues to spark debate among various groups in the state.
