On 5th april,2023 thousands of farmers and workers from across the country converged at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi for the #MazdoorKisanSangharshRally, also known as the #WorkerFarmerRally. This historic event was organized by CITU and AGRICULTURE Workers organizations to protest against the labor codes introduced by the government.
The atmosphere at Ramlila Maidan was charged with energy and determination as people from different states and backgrounds came together to raise their voice against the policies of the government. The rally was not just a show of strength but a display of solidarity among the working class of India.
The farmers and workers marched with colorful banners and placards bearing slogans like "We are farmers, not terrorists", "Save farmers, save democracy" and "No farmers, no food". The rally also saw a sea of red flags and banners of various trade unions.
One of the most striking aspects of the rally was the presence of women farmers and workers. They came from far and wide, holding their own placards and leading their groups with chants of "Kisan mazdoor ekta zindabad" (Long live the unity of farmers and workers). Their participation was a testament to the fact that women are the backbone of the agrarian economy in India.
The speeches made by the leaders of the trade unions and farmer organizations were met with thunderous applause and cheers from the crowds. They spoke about the need to protect the interests of the farmers and workers who have been exploited for too long. The speakers highlighted the fact that the new farm laws and labor codes were designed to benefit big corporations and would only lead to the further impoverishment of the farmers and workers.
The rally was also significant because it saw the participation of workers from different sectors, including healthcare, education, transport, and manufacturing. This showed that the issues faced by the working class in India are not limited to just one sector but are systemic in nature.
In conclusion,
the #MazdoorKisanSangharshRally was a powerful display of unity and solidarity among the farmers and workers of India. It showed that the people are willing to fight for their rights and will not back down until their demands are met. The government must take note of the grievances of the working class and take steps to address them in a meaningful way.
