If The US Economy Is Doing Great, Why Are Most Americans Not Feeling It?
By Bradley Blankenship
The US economy is doing great, at least on paper. The unemployment rate is at a record low, and the stock market is at an all-time high. But many average citizens are not feeling the benefits of this economic prosperity.
A recent poll found that only 38% of Americans approve of the way the economy is being run. This is the lowest approval rating for the economy since the Great Recession.
So why are most Americans not feeling the good economic news? There are a few reasons.
Inflation
One of the biggest factors is inflation. Inflation is at a 40-year high, and it is eating away at people's paychecks. A gallon of gas now costs about $5, and the price of food has also gone up significantly.
Wages
While the unemployment rate is low, wages have not kept pace with inflation. In fact, real wages (wages adjusted for inflation) have actually fallen in recent months. This means that people are earning less money, even though they are working more hours.
The cost of living
The cost of living is also rising, due to factors such as housing, healthcare, and education. This is making it difficult for people to make ends meet.
The war in Ukraine
The war in Ukraine is also having an impact on the US economy. The war has caused energy prices to rise, and it has also disrupted supply chains. This is leading to higher prices for goods and services.
What can be done?
There are a few things that can be done to address the economic concerns of Americans. One is to bring down inflation. The Federal Reserve is raising interest rates in an effort to do this. Another is to increase wages. This would help people keep up with the rising cost of living. Finally, the government can provide assistance to people who are struggling to make ends meet. This could include things like food stamps and housing assistance.
The good news is that the US economy is still growing. This means that there is hope that the economic situation will improve for most Americans in the future. However, it is important to address the concerns of Americans now, so that they do not fall further behind.
