The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and the ASHA Workers and Facilitators Federation of India (AWFFI) have congratulated the ASHA workers of Haryana for their victory in their 74-day strike, which led to an increase of Rs.2100 per month in their remuneration.
The strike, which was led by the ASHA Workers Union, Haryana (CITU), was met with repressive measures from the Haryana government. However, the government was eventually forced to reach an agreement with the union yesterday, 19 October 2023.
The Chief Minister himself was forced to call the meeting, and the government agreed to an increase in remuneration of Rs.2100 per month to all ASHA workers. The government has also agreed to give Rs 2 lakhs as retirement benefit to ASHA Workers.
CITU and AWFFI have called upon ASHA workers to intensify their struggles at state and central levels to achieve the demand of regularisation as workers with all legal entitlements. They have also urged ASHA workers to make the March to Parliament of ASHA workers under the banner of AWFFI (CITU) on 30 October 2023 a grand success.
