Tesla is recalling 54,676 Model X vehicles manufactured between 2021 and 2023 due to concerns that the vehicle controller may fail to detect low brake fluid and not display a warning light. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says the recall is necessary to comply with federal safety standards.
Tesla has released a software update to fix the issue, and owners can install the update over-the-air. Tesla says it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the issue.
The recall comes just a few months after NHTSA opened an investigation into reports of power steering loss in Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. The investigation is ongoing.
