At least six people were killed and several others injured after two trains collided in Andhra Pradesh's Vizianagaram district late on Sunday. The accident occurred between the Visakhapatnam-Palasa Passenger train and the Rayagada-Visakhapatnam Passenger train near Vizianagaram town.
According to reports, the two trains collided head-on, causing the derailment of several coaches. The impact of the collision was so strong that it left the tracks mangled and the coaches damaged beyond repair.
Rescue teams rushed to the spot and immediately began evacuating passengers from the derailed coaches. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but it is suspected that overspeeding may have been a factor.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and has ordered an inquiry into the accident.
