Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu - March 13, 2024
In a show of solidarity and determination, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) organized a protest outside the Nithravila Police Station in Kanyakumari today. The protest was fueled by outrage over the recent assault on CPIM Kanyakumari District Secretary, Comrade Chellaswamy, and Area Committee member, Comrade Anish, allegedly by a police inspector.
Led by CPIM Tamil Nadu State Secretariat members, including Comrades K. Kanakaraj and Noor Muhammad, the demonstrators demanded the immediate removal of the implicated police inspector. Their banners and chants echoed calls for justice and accountability, condemning the reported attack as a violation of human rights and an abuse of power.
In a significant move, CPIM Tamil Nadu State Secretary, Comrade K. Balakrishnan, took decisive action by submitting a formal letter to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The letter urged the Chief Minister to initiate departmental action against the police inspector and to ensure that legal proceedings are initiated against him for charges including indecent speech, physical assault, and violation of human rights.
The protest underscored the CPIM's unwavering commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of its members and holding accountable those who abuse their authority. As tensions simmer and calls for justice grow louder, the eyes of the community remain fixed on the government's response to this pressing issue.
