CPI(M) Urges Prime Minister to Convene Special Parliamentary Session on Ceasefire and National Concerns
New Delhi, May 12, 2025: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has formally urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convene a special session of Parliament to address pressing national concerns, including the recent ceasefire announcement between India and Pakistan and the aftermath of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
In a letter signed by CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby, the party expressed both relief and apprehension over the de-escalation of tensions between the two neighboring nations. While acknowledging the public's sense of unity and resilience in response to the terrorist attack, the CPI(M) raised alarm over increasing campaigns of hatred and misinformation, particularly on social media, which have caused confusion and unrest.
The letter also highlighted concerns regarding the premature statement made by the U.S. President on the ceasefire, prior to any official communication from the Indian government. The CPI(M) emphasized India’s established policy of bilateral dispute resolution, cautioning against any third-party intervention.
In his appeal, M.A. Baby stressed the need for "clear and authoritative clarification" from the government on these matters and requested the Prime Minister’s personal participation in the proposed special session to address the issues comprehensively.
This call for action aligns with the party's earlier requests from its floor leaders in Parliament, reinforcing the need for transparency and national unity during a critical juncture.
