India Condemns Pakistan Over Border Intrusion, Escalation Looms

New Delhi, May 10, 2025 — Tensions between India and Pakistan have intensified following a recent border intrusion, with India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri publicly condemning Pakistan for the incident. In a statement released by news agency ANI, Misri declared, "The Indian Army is retaliating and dealing with this border intrusion. This intrusion is extremely condemnable, and Pakistan is responsible for it."

The statement comes amidst a series of escalating military and diplomatic confrontations along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border, which have seen increased violence since late April. Reports indicate that Pakistani forces have engaged in unprovoked shelling, leading to casualties and prompting India to respond with countermeasures.
This latest flare-up is part of a broader pattern of conflict that has seen both nations take significant steps to heighten tensions. India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty earlier this year, a move Pakistan has challenged internationally, citing violations of international law. In retaliation, Pakistan suspended the Shimla Agreement, further straining bilateral relations. These actions have been accompanied by reciprocal measures, including the suspension of trade and the closure of land and air routes.

The situation deteriorated further with the launch of "Operation Sindoor" by India, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). This operation, conducted in early May, was described by Misri as a "measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible" response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which India attributes to Pakistan-based militants.
International observers are watching closely as the risk of further escalation looms. The United Nations and other global actors have called for restraint, but the rhetoric from both sides remains sharp. Pakistan has denied involvement in the Pahalgam attack and accused India of fabricating excuses for military action.

As both nations, nuclear-armed and historically at odds over the disputed region of Kashmir, continue to exchange fire and accusations, the international community remains concerned about the potential for a larger conflict. The coming days will be critical in determining whether diplomatic channels can be reopened or if the current trajectory will lead to further military engagements.
