Socialist Youth Union in Taiz Supports Women’s Uprising and Declares Full Commitment to Fighting Corruption
Taiz, Yemen – May 24, 2025
The Socialist Youth Union (SYU) in Taiz issued a powerful statement today, applauding the women-led uprising that swept through the city’s streets in protest against rampant corruption and deteriorating living conditions. The union held the local government fully accountable for the escalating humanitarian and service crises.
“We are not mere spectators,” the statement read. “We are an integral part of this overwhelming popular movement, standing shoulder to shoulder with every revolutionary woman and every voice that rejects humiliation and exploitation.”
The SYU described the protests as a genuine uprising against oppression and a direct message to a corrupt authority thriving on citizens’ suffering. The statement specifically blamed the Governor of Taiz for the city's failed policies and his dismissive approach toward addressing public demands.
The union called for an organized escalation of peaceful protests across all districts of Taiz and Yemen, urging political and civil organizations to unite against corruption and tyranny.
“The current administration has become a burden on Taiz and must be uprooted entirely,” the statement concluded, saluting all activists who embody the legacy of national and class struggle.
Excerpts from the Statement
"With the people… In the streets… Against corruption and oppression."
The Socialist Youth Union in Taiz proudly honors the women’s uprising that flooded the city’s streets on Saturday, May 24, 2025. Hundreds of women voiced their rejection of corruption and the worsening crises, including a catastrophic water shortage exacerbated by deliberate local government policies. These policies, the statement claimed, aim to privatize public resources such as water and electricity.
The union underscored its active participation in the protests, declaring solidarity with every revolutionary woman and every citizen fighting for dignity and justice.
The statement criticized the local administration for its arrogance and inefficiency, highlighting the dire conditions in Taiz: soaring prices, widespread unemployment, collapsing public services, and lawlessness under a regime that fosters corruption and protects profiteers.
The SYU called on all political, labor, and civil forces to set aside differences and unite in the struggle against authoritarianism and systemic corruption.
