CPI(M) MP John Brittas Champions India's Diversity in Jakarta
Jakarta, June 2, 2025 — During a diplomatic visit to Indonesia as part of an all-party delegation, Communist Party of India (Marxist) MP John Brittas emphasized India's unity in diversity as the country's core strength. Speaking at an event with the Indian diaspora in Jakarta, Brittas paid tribute at Mahatma Gandhi's statue before addressing the gathering, highlighting India's harmonious coexistence of multiple faiths and cultures.
In a sharp rebuke to Pakistan's Army Chief General Asim Munir, who recently claimed that Hindus and Muslims are "fundamentally different" and that such differences justify division or conflict, Brittas challenged the narrative head-on. "Can you swear by General Munir's claim that Hindus and Muslims are separate?" he questioned, standing alongside Congress leader Salman Khurshid. "In india, Hindus, Muslims, and Christians live together in harmony. This is the true message of India."
Brittas, a vocal CPI(M) leader underscored that India's reality contradicts divisive rhetoric. "Salman Khurshid is here with me. I am a Christian from Kerala, where three major religions coexist peacefully. This unity in diversity is India's strength," he said, reinforcing the nation's pluralistic ethos.
The event was part of a broader diplomatic outreach following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, with the delegation projecting India's unified stance against terrorism. Brittas' remarks resonated strongly with the diaspora, earning praise for articulating India's cultural unity on an international stage.
