NIA Launches Major Counter-Espionage Raids Across Eight States
New Delhi, June 1: In a sweeping crackdown on an alleged Pakistan-linked espionage network, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted simultaneous raids at 15 locations across eight states on Saturday. The coordinated operation spanned Delhi, Mumbai (Maharashtra), Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Assam, and West Bengal.
The raids were initiated following the arrest of Moti Ram Jat, a CRPF jawan, who has been accused of leaking sensitive national security information to Pakistani intelligence operatives in exchange for money since 2023. The operation aims to dismantle a spy network allegedly tied to broader anti-India activities orchestrated by Pakistan-based agents.
NIA teams seized a range of incriminating materials during the raids, including electronic devices, financial documents, and other evidence. These materials are currently under forensic examination to further expose the extent and connections of the espionage activities.
The investigation, registered on May 20, 2025, is being pursued under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967.
Sources within the NIA suggest that additional arrests and searches are likely as the agency intensifies its probe into the espionage network. The case has raised concerns over the vulnerabilities of national security and prompted calls for heightened vigilance within sensitive institutions.
The operation underscores India's determination to counter threats posed by hostile foreign intelligence activities and safeguard its sovereignty. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
