AIKS CKC Meet Calls for 9 July Strike, Slams Modi Govt’s Anti-Farmer FTAs

AIKS CKC Meeting at Kannur Calls for Making 9 July General Strike a Massive Success; Slams Modi Govt’s Anti-Farmer Surrender to USA on Trade Deal

Kannur, Kerala | July 2, 2025
The Central Kisan Committee (CKC) meeting of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), held from June 28–30, 2025, at E.K. Nayanar Academy in Kannur, Kerala, concluded with a powerful call to intensify struggles against the BJP-led Central Government’s anti-farmer and pro-corporate policies. The AIKS resolved to mobilise massive tehsil-level protests on 9 July, aligning with the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and working actively to ensure the success of the All India General Strike called by Central Trade Unions.

🔴 Free Trade Agreements a Threat to Indian Agriculture

The CKC strongly condemned the Modi Government’s rush to sign Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with the UK (already signed), and upcoming deals with the USA and the EU, accusing it of surrendering the interests of Indian farmers and small entrepreneurs. The AIKS warned that these FTAs—negotiated in secrecy—threaten federalism, bypass Parliament, and will lead to zero or reduced import duties on vital agricultural products, devastating domestic agriculture and rural livelihoods.

🔴 Congress-Run States Also Under Fire

While attacking the BJP government, the meeting also criticised Congress-led State Governments in Karnataka and Telangana for continuing with anti-worker policies like Labour Codes, 12-hour workdays, land acquisition laws, and other neoliberal reforms.

🔴 AIKS Announces Nationwide Campaigns & Conventions

The AIKS has decided to escalate mass struggles around key demands:

  • Withdrawal of anti-worker Labour Codes
  • Opposition to electricity privatisation and smart meters
  • Ensuring Minimum Support Price (MSP) and loan waivers
  • Land rights and MNREGA implementation
  • Protection of farmland and human settlements from wild animal threats. The BJP Government’s refusal to amend the Wildlife Protection Act was condemned.

A Cuba Solidarity Campaign will be held from 26 July to 5 August, opposing US sanctions. A Solidarity Fund will be collected and handed over to Cuban representatives.

In the months ahead, the AIKS will organise:

  • All India Land Rights Convention in Jharkhand
  • State-level conventions of Peasant Women and Youth
  • An All India Organisational Convention in Andhra Pradesh

🔴 Membership Milestone: 1.53 Crore Members Across 27 States

The AIKS crossed a historic milestone by reaching 1,53,15,100 members across 27 states, including Andaman and Nicobar Islands—marking significant growth over the last five years.

🔴 New Central Office Funded by the People

In a symbolic moment of unity and sacrifice, Kerala Karshaka Sangham (AIKS Kerala) handed over ₹1 Crore to the central leadership for the construction of AIKS’ new Central Office in New Delhi. Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Telangana have completed their quotas, with others expected to follow soon.

🔴 Leadership Addresses and Historic Visits

The CKC meeting opened on June 29 with flag-hoisting and floral tributes to martyrs.

  • AIKS Vice President E.P. Jayarajan welcomed delegates.
  • President Dr Ashok Dhawale gave the Presidential Address, outlining political challenges.
  • General Secretary Vijoo Krishnan presented the Draft Report, which sharply criticised the upcoming FTA with the USA, scheduled for signing by 9 July.
  • Finance Secretary P. Krishna Prasad presented the financial report and future plans.

The public rally on June 30 at Kannur saw spirited participation. Leaders including Vijoo Krishnan, Dr Dhawale, Amra Ram MP, and AIKS Kerala President M. Vijayakumar addressed the crowd.

On June 28, 75 CKC members visited historic sites of peasant uprisings at Karivellur and Kayyur—deeply symbolic locations in India’s agrarian resistance history.
