Durgapur, India – On August 13, 2025, a large protest march was held in Durgapur to condemn what organizers described as undue interference by the United States in India's sovereign affairs. The demonstration was organized by the Hindustan Steel Employees Union and other CITU-affiliated labor organizations.
Protesters marched from the Ambedkar statue rotary in A-Zone to Netaji Bhavan, demanding that the US withdraw its threats against India's independent foreign and trade policies. A primary focus of the protest was the US's objection to India's trade agreements with Russia and the unilateral imposition of a 50% tariff on Indian exports.
At the conclusion of the march, Comrade Bishwarup Bandyopadhyay, a member of the CITU State Secretariat, addressed the gathering. The event saw a large turnout of workers and supporters.
