Imran Khan "Physically Fit" But Facing "Mental Torture," Says Sister After Rare Jail Visit

RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD: Jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan met his sister, Dr. Uzma Khanum, at Adiala Jail on Tuesday, ending weeks of speculation regarding his well-being that had sparked protests across Pakistan.

While Dr. Uzma confirmed that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder is "perfectly fine" physically, she alleged that he is being subjected to severe psychological pressure and solitary confinement.

"Proof of Life" Amidst Rumors
The 30-minute meeting on December 2, 2025, was the first contact Khan has had with his family in over a month. Access had been repeatedly denied by jail authorities citing security concerns, fueling rampant rumors on social media about his alleged death or deteriorating health.

emerging from the high-security facility, Dr. Uzma addressed the media and anxious supporters gathered outside. "I want to tell everyone that he is physically fit and healthy. He is alive and perfectly fine," she stated, aiming to quell the unrest among PTI workers.

Allegations of "Mental Torture"
Despite his physical health, Khan’s sister painted a disturbing picture of his daily life behind bars. She described his condition as one of "mental torture," claiming he is kept in a small cell for most of the day without electricity and is strictly prohibited from communicating with other inmates or jail staff.

"He is being kept in isolation. He has no contact with the outside world or anyone inside the jail," she added.

Blame Cast on Army Chief
In a politically charged statement, Dr. Uzma relayed a message from the 73-year-old leader, who she said was "extremely angry" about his treatment. She told reporters that Imran Khan explicitly held the Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, responsible for his current predicament and the harsh conditions of his incarceration.

"He told me clearly that General Asim Munir is directly responsible for what is happening to him," she said.

High Security and Protests
The visit took place under tight security measures. Authorities had imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, banning public gatherings. Despite this, scores of PTI supporters defied restrictions to gather near the jail, chanting slogans and demanding "proof of life."

Khan’s other sister, Aleema Khan, who has been a vocal critic of the government’s handling of her brother’s case, was also present outside the jail but did not enter during this visit.

The confirmation of Khan’s safety is expected to de-escalate immediate tensions on the streets, though his accusations against the military establishment are likely to deepen the ongoing political rift in the country.
