Statement by the Central Committee of the CPRF Regarding the Military Strikes and Abduction of President Maduro
CARACAS / MOSCOW — The world has once again become a witness to a monstrous act of imperialist aggression. In the early hours of January 3, 2026, the United States Air Force launched massive strikes on Caracas and other major centers across Venezuela.
Targeted locations included the Presidential Residence, the National Assembly building, the Hugo Chávez Mausoleum, critical military installations, and transportation hubs. This barbaric action, part of the U.S. military’s “Operation Absolute Resolve,” has resulted in numerous casualties, including women and children.
A New Bloody Crime Against Sovereignty
The Central Committee of the CPRF issued a scathing condemnation, labeling the attack an act of state terrorism. The statement emphasizes that the Trump administration is prepared to go to any lengths to overthrow the independent government of a sovereign nation.
"The night air strike on the territory of a sovereign state is a gross violation of the UN Charter and international law.
6 It is an open act of state terrorism aimed at toppling the legitimate government and installing a puppet regime by force."7 — Central Committee of the CPRF
The CPRF notes that this is the latest in a long history of U.S. crimes, linking the current aggression to previous interventions in Vietnam, Korea, Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, for which they hold Washington primarily responsible.
The Abduction of Nicolás Maduro
Reports have confirmed that President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured by U.S. special forces (Delta Force) and forcibly transported to New York. The CPRF has made it clear that they hold the U.S. leadership directly responsible for their lives and safety.
Demand for Release: The CPRF demands the immediate and unconditional return of President Maduro to Caracas to resume his duties.
10 The "Narcoterrorism" Pretext: The party rejects the U.S. justification of "law enforcement," viewing the drug trafficking charges as a flimsy pretext for regime change and the seizure of Venezuela's vast oil resources.
A Call for Global Resistance
The statement highlights that for over 25 years—since Hugo Chávez’s victory in 1998—Venezuela has been a "thorn in the side" of global capital. By pursuing "Socialism of the 21st Century," Caracas challenged the Monroe Doctrine and the U.S. view of Latin America as its "backyard."
The CPRF calls on:
The BRICS Nations: To take urgent collective measures in defense of international law.
The UN Security Council: To formally condemn the U.S. aggression.
Progressive Forces: To form a common front against the "new wave of militaristic actions" by the United States.
The party concludes that only a consolidated struggle against the "diktat of capital" can block the path toward further wars and interventions.
